“Demain Peut-être” sculpture is a limited edition series crafted in two sizes. It’s sculpted in plaster in hand-made molds, coated with a bespoke alloy of tin and copper that mimics gold and varnished.
Prompted by meditations on Marcus Aurelius’ eponymous work, Francois Hurtaud felt challenged by the ideas of transcience and timelessness. As one of the dominating recurring motifs in “Meditations”, the passing of time inspired the artist to further contemplate temporality. He was looking for an actualization of the stoic canon, an artistic response to the philosophical memento mori. He found it in the Fibonacci sequence and its visual equivalent, the golden section. For Francois Hurtaud, the sequence represented the means to transfer the mathematical language of perfection to a tangible artifact, one we recognize everywhere in our world, and beyond. So, he created an objet d’art in concordance with the golden mean as a way to evoke and model the allegory of the supreme order.
