MYKU introduces Malachite to its Automatics Series I

MYKU Malachite Automatics Series

MYKU introduces Malachites to its automatic series.

Breaking with boundaries of traditional watchmaking in this new series, the MYKU’s automatic series showcases each unique stone dial, seemingly floating at the centre of the case. Every stone is carefully selected, choosing the most expressive deep-blue shades of Lapis Lazuli and magnetic-green tones of Malachite. Encased in this series’ new design, each dial evokes the idea of a deep-blue starlit night sky or the lush greenery of picturesque meadows with each look at the watch.

As MYKU’s first mechanical movement, this new series reflects the brand’s quest for watchmaking perfection and the respect for the century-long evolution of natural semi-precious stones. Debuting for MYKU, each timepiece features an automatic self-winding Swiss movement with 25 jewels.

Every detail of this new series sparks innovation. Breaking with traditions, the leather straps are no longer held with lugs, but fitted covertly into position under the curvature of each case, allowing for an easy release, yet reliable hold at all times. In line with MYKU’s value of sustainability, all straps of the previous Elemental Classic series are compatible with this new design, not only allowing for continuous use, but offering endless combinations to style the watch. In addition to MYKU’s current selection of straps, we launched a new custom-branded butterfly clasp, available to pair with the straps for this series.

The new series continues to embody MYKU’s clear, simple, yet elegant, design language. The surface of each watch features a dedicated finishing, including mirror and vertical brush in a concentric, matte setting, a process that poses a sophisticated challenge for the most skilled craftsmen to master. Each watch is set with a custom curved sapphire glass, which is extremely resistant.

The launch of MYKU’s latest series marks the team’s meticulous journey from the first sketch to the prototype and final reveal of the new series. To celebrate its release, the total series features 40 unique timepieces.

François Hurtaud

François Hurtaud begun his design career in 2008 as a studio designer after graduating from Masters Degree in Advanced Studies in Cross-cultural Design at Shanghai University and a Bachelor in Industrial Design at L’Ecole de Design de Nantes in France.

Hurtaud then headed the design force for several consumer goods companies where he demonstrates his understanding of the power of social and sustainable design, cross-cultural and the precarious balance of function and form in luxury design and production.

Since his childhood, Hurtaud has always had the passion for art, science and technology; passions that he cultivated and improved through formal educations and apprenticeship in design. Having the chance of working in different countries, agencies and companies, exploring multitude aspects of designs, he now thinks of design as an equation, trying to find creative solutions to balance between functionality & aesthetics, sustainability & profitability, viability & legitimacy. Hurtaud’s designs has received multiple international design awards and accolades, such as Good Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, German Design Award and A' Design Award.
